Export Trade Stages Strange But Healthy Rebound
Global trade in April 2020 hit rock bottom as the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic cratered activity. That said, any year-over-year comparisons between April 2021 export numbers and last year are bound to yield extraordinarily large and misleading increases. And that is certainly the case, according to Beacon Economics.
According to the latest U.S. trade statistics, exports from California businesses jumped a remarkable 46.2 percent in April 2021 compared to April 2020. While caution should be exercised for this comparison, the latest numbers also show that the state’s exports strongly increased from pre-pandemic April 2019.
