Exelon Will Keep Its Headquarters in Chicago

Utilities giant Exelon will remain headquartered in Chicago, reported Crain’s Chicago Business. Its new CEO, Calvin Butler, is relocating from Baltimore back to Chicago.

With the exception of Chicago’s Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), every electric utility Exelon owns is in the East, including Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE). Accordingly, there was some trepidation in Chicago about the future of one of its largest corporate headquarters, Crain’s reported.

Exelon spun off its power-generation business last year, which included the nation’s largest fleet of nuclear plants. That unit, now dubbed Constellation Energy Group, was headquartered in Baltimore.

Butler began his career at Exelon in Chicago as a lobbyist for ComEd before decamping to Baltimore to lead BGE. Upon his return to the city, he’s joining the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. He continues as a board member of Bradley University in Peoria, his alma mater.
