Everything Down with Abilene Economic Index – Except Jobs
The Abilene Economic Index fell once again in July, hitting 122.7. The number represents the index’s third straight monthly decline since peaking in April at 124.2.
The July metrics (the most recent ones) report that the index was 123.3 in June, and 123.7 in July 2015. The reason for the continued decline is that almost all the components of the index had decreased year over year.
The one exception was payroll employment. Though the unemployment rate was 4.3% (versus the 4.2% reported in July 2015), payroll employment was 68,700, above the 67,900 from the year before.
