EV Truck-Maker Rivian Opens Austin Service Center
A new service center from electric truck company Rivian, has come to North Austin. The center comes not long after it was revealed that its competitor, Tesla, will be opening its fourth Austin showroom. The California-based automaker says the 24,000 square foot space is dedicated to serving 42% of Texas’ preorder holders along with their custom electric delivery vehicles from Amazon.
The Austin facility will provide parts and repair electric automobiles for Amazon, which is making an attempt to make its supply fleet environmentally neutral. Amazon owns 17.7% of Rivian, Ford owns 11.4%. The company builds one truck and one SUV style.
Rivian’s Tyler Schuetz knows Austin’s high-tech community will be receptive, “There’s such a big base that is excited for EVs. That we’re right here, that the vans and SUVs are current in Austin. They’re simply excited to be around it.”
Prices on the vehicles begin at $67,000 each. They can travel 315 miles on one charge.
