EV Charger Maker to Build Plano Plant
South Korea-based SK Signet says the Plano facility will produce a range of fast-charging solutions, including providing the first U.S.-manufactured ultra-fast chargers and power cabinets that offer more than 350kW of power. The 350kW chargers can charge most EV’s in 20 minutes to one hour.
The plant, which will require redeveloping an existing building, will cover 136,200 square feet and is expected to be operating at full capacity by July 2023, producing more than 10,000 fast chargers per year. SK Signet has already supplied over 2,500 fast chargers for the United States.
Texas is becoming a major consumer of electric cars. In 2020, there were more than 52,000 electric vehicles registered in the state. That number grew to nearly 81,000 in 2021.
The company plans to work closely with state and local officials to recruit and train workers. The company says it will require 180 local workers to man the plant, once completed.
