Essex’s John Eudy Retiring, Adam Berry to Succeed

John D. Eudy, 64, is retiring as Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Investment Officer of San Mateo, CA-based Essex Property Trust, Inc. The veteran has led the REIT’s development activities for more than 33 years, during which time the firm created more than 15,000 apartment homes. He was also instrumental in helping defeat California’s Prop 10 rent control measure in November.

Essex Property Trust’s Michael Schall says, “John is without question among the most accomplished and successful investment executives in the real estate industry, driving the company’s portfolio from $250 million in 1994 to $22 billion today. John was a founding partner and key member of Essex’s executive team when the company completed its IPO in 1994.”

Adam W. Berry, 45, currently Essex’s SVP of Investments, was named to succeed Eudy as Co-Chief Investment Officer. Berry joined Essex in 2003 in an acquisitions role, and has served in various leadership positions, ranging from redevelopment and property dispositions programs, to working with Eudy on development opportunities.

The shift is slated to take place on or around April 2019, and Eudy is expected to continue on a part-time basis thereafter.
