Equity Residential CEO Stepping Down at Year’s End

David J. Neithercut (pictured), president and CEO of Equity Residential since 2006, is retiring at year’s end as part of a planned succession. He’ll be succeeded as CEO of the locally-based apartment REIT on Dec. 31 by Mark J. Parrell, who succeeds Neithercut as president effective immediately.

“I have been honored to serve as a member of Equity Residential’s executive leadership since 1993, and am extremely grateful for the support of our investors, employees and board over the last 25 years,” said Neithercut.

Neithercut added that he has worked closely with Parrell for much of this time “and will transition leadership of the company to him with great confidence. He is a strategic thinker, proven leader and respected colleague, who, together with the company’s talented senior management team, will work diligently to deliver continued success.”

Succeeding Parrell in his current roles of EVP and CFO is Robert A. Garechana.
