Envision New Braunfels Close to Implementation

Envision New Braunfels, the city’s comprehensive plan, is closing in on implementation after two years of work. Once implemented, the plan will be a non-regulatory framework that will help direct the city’s growth through 2030. One highlight from the plan is location and density of commercial and residential development.

The first of two formal readings before city council took place Aug. 21. The second reading is scheduled for Aug. 27, and it’s anticipated the plan will receive approval at that time. If approved, the implementation process will begin, with the framework fine-tuned every five years.

Some of the plan’s elements that could be immediately implemented include amending the city’s zoning, platting sign and parking ordinances; revisiting the extraterritorial jurisdiction policy; updating regional thoroughfare plans; conducting an historic property survey, and studying sub-area corridor plans.
