Entergy Spending $2.4B on Two Texas Power Plants
Entergy has been greenlighted to build two Texas power plants. The $2.4 billion investment will be split between gas plants in San Jacinto and Jefferson counties. The two power plants will add more than 1.2 gigawatts of electricity to the grid, enough to power more than 300,000 homes. In addition, these projects are expected to generate approximately $2.8 billion in economic activity and create over 9,000 construction jobs in the Port Arthur and Cleveland areas. Both facilities are planned to be in service by mid-2028.
The Port Arthur plant is expected to generate $1.79 billion in regional economic activity during construction, the Cleveland plant, $951 million (shown).
“We’ve heard directly from our customers and communities about the need for more power to support our rapidly growing region, and these facilities will deliver just that,” said Eliecer Viamontes, CEO of Entergy Texas.
Entergy Texas provides electricity to approximately 524,000 customers in 27 counties.
