Energy Storage Solutions Seeking Permit for $6.4B NC Data Center

Energy Storage Solutions has settled on Tarboro, North Carolina, to build a data center and energy storage project.

The company has submitted an application to the Town of Tarboro in Edgecombe County to build the project on more than 50 acres on the south side of Anaconda Road, between McNair Road and Western Boulevard. The project will entail a $6.4 billion investment and create 500 jobs.

The Triangle Business Journal reports the Tarboro project won’t be tapped into the grid. Instead, it will generate energy via a nearby natural gas system, which will store the energy generated using battery storage. A natural gas transmission line exists 4,000 feet from the site. They anticipate building their own substation on-site.

The overall development will include three projects, with the first two being 25 megawatt data centers and the third being a 50 megawatt “mobile data center.
