Emanuel’s 8-Year Tenure Proved Momentous for CRE
As he prepares to leave office on May 20, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has taken a look back over his eight-year term, a tenure that was momentous for Chicago’s commercial real estate sector. In a 222-page report highlighting his administration’s accomplishments, the mayor cites numerous areas of progress in job creation and economic development.
Among them are the expansion of O’Hare International Airport, the Industrial Corridor Modernization Initiative—which has given rise to projects such as Lincoln Yards—and Building on Burnham, a plan to invest in the city’s waterfronts and parks.
There’s also the city’s efforts to encourage businesses to relocate here. “Owing to these efforts, for six consecutive years Chicago has been named the top metro area in the nation for corporate relocation and investment by Site Selection Magazine, and the top destination in North America for foreign direct investment according to IBM’s Global Location Trends,” the report states.
Chicago Treasurer Kurt Summers will appear in a one-on-one Q&A at Connect Chicago, coming up this afternoon! Click here to register for the event.
