Elon Musk’s Boring Company Breaks Ground on Las Vegas Tunnel Project
The Boring Company broke ground on its Las Vegas tunnel that connects the city’s convention center to sites across Sin City. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Board of Directors approved a $52-million contract with Elon Musk’s Boring Co. earlier this year to design and construct a twin-tunnel Loop system for the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).
The initial work will include three stations between the existing Convention Center campus and the LVCC New Exhibit Hall. The people mover will transport people through two one-mile-long tunnels in about a minute at an estimated rate of 4,400 people per hour. Eventually, the transportation system is envisioned to connect to popular tourist destinations on the Strip, between Downtown Las Vegas and McCarran International Airport, as well as Los Angeles.
The Boring Co. has tunneling projects proposed, approved or under construction in five cities including Chicago, Baltimore-Washington and Los Angeles.
