El Paso Steel Maker Breaks Ground on $255M Expansion

The 63-year-old Vinton Steel plant, just outside El Paso, is due for an upgrade. The parent company, Kyoei Steel, has committed $255 million to expand the facility. This project will modernize and expand the steel mill’s operations by more than 1.5 million square feet. The renovations will enable the facility to double its production capacity of recycled steel products, including reinforcing bars and grinding balls, and integrate cutting-edge technologies aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.

The investment is expected to create upwards of 300 jobs.

In addition, it also has the potential to support over 2,000 regional jobs by 2062, with an economic impact projected to generate more than $17.9 billion in total local economic output over the next 36 years.

Construction is slated to continue through early 2027.
