El Paso Planning Cross-Border Bike-Share Program
The city of El Paso is examining the possibility of initiating a cross-border bike-share program that would allow local residents to rent bicycles and take them across the border into Mexican sister city Ciudad Juarez. The cyclists could then leave them in Juarez for pick-up, if that’s where the trip was to end. The project would correlate with the SunCycle bike-share program, which launched in 2015.
El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Michael Medina said the city would be the first in North America to have a cross-border program. He added that the program would be funded through a public/private partnership, and hopes that a pilot version of the project would launch by the end of 2018, or spring 2019.
