Edinburg’s Retail Economy Tops Valley Cities, Texas

Edinburg’s retail economy improved by 4.6% from January to August of this year, according to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The figure leads all major Rio Grande cities, and tops the statewide average of 1.1%.

Breaking it down to dollars, Edinburg’s retail economy generated $17.5 million in local sales taxes from January to August 2016, versus the $16.8 million reported during the same time period last year.

The retail economy is measured by local sales taxes generated from the purchase of eligible goods and services. In August, Edinburg did well, increasing by close to 2% over its August 2015 collection.
