Edinburg Reaches its Largest Number Employed
The December 2016 employment figures were kind to the city of Edinburg in Texas’ Rio Grande River Valley. Specifically, the metro’s 5.1% unemployment rate was the second best in the valley, while the number of full-time employees in 2016 – 36,850 – was the largest, according to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Edinburg’s unemployment rate was edged out by McAllen’s, which was 4.9%. Harlingen, TX reported a 5.8% unemployment rate for the period.
The TWC also reported that the metro experienced annual growth of 1,000 jobs. In 2015, Edinburg posted the valley’s lowest unemployment rate in November at 4.7%.
