Ector County Jail Expansion Delayed – Again

An expansion project that would add more space to the Ector County Jail in Odessa, TX, was delayed once again, due to a storm drainage pipe found where the expansion will be built. Construction was originally supposed to begin in mid-January 2018, then was postponed to Feb. 1, 2018, after waiting on approval from the Texas Jail Commission and architectural changes. A ceremonial groundbreaking took place in mid-January, 2018.

According to Charlie Pierce, the county’s Interim Building Maintenance Director, the delay will be short, with the pipe’s movement expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks. The pipe, which was located when dirt-work on the expansion began, is not allowed to be placed beneath concrete.
