Economic Report: NYC Should Emphasize Tech and Healthcare Sectors

New York City should play to its strengths and emphasize the tech and healthcare sectors to drive its recovery from the pandemic, the Conference Board’s Committee for Economic Development (CED) says in a new report. The report recommends measures that range from investing in a life sciences ecosystem to partnering with high schools to teach tech skills.

“At the height of the pandemic, New York City’s technology and health care sectors were busy innovating and responding to the urgent needs in the region,” said Lori Esposito Murray, president of CED. “A renewed focus on these transformative industries is exactly what the city needs as it rebuilds a more resilient, future-focused economy.”

The report notes that some of the city’s traditional bulwark industries, including the FIRE sector, have been slow to rebound from pandemic-driven job losses. Meanwhile, the information technology and healthcare sectors are riding an upward swing
