Economic Innovation Group Launches Interactive O-Zone Map
The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) — a think-tank responsible, in part, for spearheading the Opportunity Zones initiative and legislation — now has a tool to keep those interested in the topic up to date. Specifically, the organization issued its “Opportunity Zones Activity Map,” an interactive website that provides users with information about national O-zone initiatives, funds and investments. “The goal of this project is to shape the Opportunity Zones marketplace towards deep social impact and broad geographic reach, by sharing information and best practices with the public,” the EIG website noted.
EIG acknowledged that the initiative isn’t all-inclusive, and isn’t a substitute for federal data collection. Rather, entries have been identified through press releases, media reports and “other publicly accessible sources.” In addition, the information used focuses on projects that are underway, that are “actively utilizing Opportunity zone capital in the case of investments,” as opposed to those projects that are in the planning phases.
Still, the goal is to provide a “curated list of activities” while demonstrating “the most novel, noteworthy and promising local developments catalyzed by the Opportunity Zones policy,” EIG commented.
