Eastern Nazarene College Will Sell Entire Campus for Redevelopment
Eastern Nazarene College (ENC), a small private school in Quincy, MA that is ceasing operations, will sell its entire campus to development firm Crain Co. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The developer’s founder, Graham Crain, is an ENC alumnus.
“Crain stood out among prospective buyers for two primary reasons,” ENC president Rev. Colleen Derr wrote in a message to the campus community. “First, they were interested in purchasing the entire campus and were willing and able to work quickly to finalize an agreement. This helped us avoid a costly, drawn-out process of selling property on a piecemeal basis. More importantly, Crain has a unique understanding of and appreciation for ENC’s legacy as both an educational institution and as part of the local community here in Quincy.”
The Patriot Ledger reported that ENC has begun the process of creating a new subdivision called Eastern Nazarene Estates. It would divide the campus into 30 single-family lots and two multifamily lots, with one new thoroughfare and two cul-de-sacs.
ENC, which announced last June that it would close, is the latest in a series of small Massachusetts colleges to either shut down or merge with larger schools, the Boston Business Journal reported.
