E-tailers Get Real In NYC

April 5, 2017

When online retailers open permanent stores in the real, physical world, they overwhelmingly tend to open their brick-and-mortar stores in New York City, according to “From Screens to Stores,” a report from JLL National Retail.

Among 51 e-tailers that opened physical stores, 14 picked New York City, more than three times as many as chose any other town. Those New York stores include retailers like Warby Parker, Rent the Runway and Bonobos.

More than half of e-tailers that opened physical stores are apparel brands. Most of these e-tailers start by opening temporary, “pop-up” stores in various locations before opening their first permanent store.
