E-Fuels Company Chooses Houston-Area Site

Matagorda County has been chosen by HIF Global to be the site of its first eFuels facility in North America. The company hopes to produce enough carbon-neutral fuel to “decarbonize” 400,000 cars a year. HIF claims the carbon-neutral gasoline substitute can be used in vehicles without modifying existing engines. The project is designed to convert hydrogen, made using renewable power, into carbon neutral liquid dFuels.

HIF plans to invest $6 billion into the project, creating 3,000 jobs during the construction process, and 125 permanent positions. HIF’s Renato Pereira feels they chose the right location, “We chose this site because of its unique combination of incentive support, available real estate, tax and regulatory stability. Carbon-neutral eFuels represent the energy sector’s next frontier. We expect to start construction in 2023 and start producing fuel in 2026.”

HIF Chile is currently constructing the Haru Oni Demonstration Plant in Magallanes, Chile.
