Duke, CaroMont Health Joining Forces on Mecklenburg County Expansion

Duke Health and CaroMont Health are collaborating to construct two new hospitals in Mecklenburg County, which includes the city of Charlotte.

The facilities are set to provide a combined 200 hospital beds. A number of key details have not yet been disclosed, including the costs of both hospitals and the scope of clinical services available at each location.

The health systems are filing Certificate of Need applications for both facilities with the state. The review process is expected to take a few months. If approved, the hospitals could open by the end of 2031.

The larger facility — at 120 beds — would be located in the northeast part of the city near Mallard Creek, while the smaller facility of 80 beds would be built in the River District, near the western edge of Charlotte and adjacent to the airport
