51st and Cameron Road in Austin to become mixed use project

Drenner Group Eyeing Austin Infill Mixed-Use Project

The Drenner Group hopes to build a mixed-use project on East 51st Street in Austin on roughly 8.5 acres. The project will include a variety of residential and commercial real estate offerings.

Drenner Group filed a rezoning application last month on behalf of the owner, Danly Properties, for a project called East 51st Street and Cameron Road. The plans call for 40,000 square feet of retail space, 40,000 square feet for a grocery store, 150,000 square feet dedicated to offices and 550 multifamily units. No tenants or businesses have been named for the retail space. Currently, the properties are populated by a number of residential and commercial buildings. The Austin Business Journal reports the zoning application calls for the demolition of dozens of buildings.

The new project will sit between Mueller Regional Retail Center and Capital Plaza. Both are filled with restaurants and retail, including The Home Depot, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Best Buy.
