Dr. Dre’s Dropping a 75,000 SF Complex in Compton

Los Angeles has a rich history of arts and entertainment, and Compton is no exception. However, the city has lacked commercial real estate to back its talent, and hasn’t even had a movie theatre in decades. Both the city and Dr. Dre, one of its most successful sons, are aiming to change that.

On a huge 6.36-acre site, Dr. Dre and the city of Compton intend to build an entertainment complex that will include a performing arts center, multipurpose hall, and 500-car parking structure. The 75,000 square foot performing arts center will cater to the community on many levels, serving as a dance studio, recording studio, stage, homework center and youth fitness arena.

The estimated price tag for the project is $35 million, to which Dr. Dre has already committed his royalties from his most recent album Compton to help fund.
