Downtown Summerlin the new Practice Home for Vegas NHL Team

The Howard Hughes Corp. has struck a deal with Black Knight Sports & Entertainment LLC to build a practice facility for the National Hockey League franchise arriving in Las Vegas. Ground zero is the 300-acre Downtown Summerlin, a mixed-use development in Las Vegas owned by Howard Hughes.

Black Knight Sports agreed to a 20-year lease to build the dual-rink facility, which will be situated on 4.6 acres. In addition to serving as a practice venue for the as-yet unnamed Las Vegas expansion team, the facility will also house expanded youth hockey programs, as well as adult hockey leagues. The new franchise will begin playing during the 2017-2018 season.

Downtown Summerlin consists of 1.4 million square feet of outdoor retail, dining and entertainment venues. Downtown Summerlin is part of the 22,500-acre, master-planned Sumerlin, which includes 150 neighborhood and village parks, 22 public and private schools, shopping centers and a multitude of houses.
