Downtown SD Adding Hip, New, Apartments in North Park
Living downtown almost anywhere involves sacrifices and/or conditions. That is, if one can find a spot to domicile. In downtown San Diego, that option just got a bit easier, thanks to a joint venture between New Mexico-based Titan Development and Thornburg Real Estate Ventures, as well as San Diego’s Malick Infill Development.
Let’s throw in some close proximity to a San Diego Chicken Pot Pie Shop. Why not, right?
The North Park neighborhood in San Diego is about to gain a new, $35 million apartment building. The units’ sizes are of note, too. (And, MusicFest is coming up May 21.)
Construction started this week on 4250 Oregon St., which will have 406-square-foot studios and 593-square-foot one-bedrooms. (Quick visual: 600 square feet is “about the size of a standard three-car garage that has enough space to park the cars and walk around comfortably.”)
“As construction costs are rising, and the demand for housing is escalating, you can’t provide 750-square-foot one-bedroom units to everybody,” said Josh Rogers, Titan Development senior vice president, quoted and reported here first.
Affordability is a factor for these new spreads. There will be five subsidized apartments for renters who earn 30 percent to 60 percent of the city median income. Currently, that would be $25,450 to $50,940 for an individual.
