Dow Chemical Planning $109M Facility Expansion

Dow Chemical announced plans to expand its facility in Nederland, TX. The company is interested in building a new unit on the site at 5470 Twin Cities Hwy. (SH 347), and would spend $109 million to do so. Nederland, in southeast Texas’ Jefferson County, was one of the areas hard-hit by Hurricane Harvey in August-September 2017.

The company is currently negotiating with Jefferson County leaders on a tax break agreement. According to county officials, the expansion would retain 60 full-time jobs, and employ up to 250 construction workers.

County Commissioner Bo Alfred indicated that the expansion would be helpful to the county, especially in the wake of Harvey. He also told KFDM/FOX 4 that the county needed to bring back residents who evacuated, and settled elsewhere.
