Douglas Development Kicks Off Georgetown Office-to-Hotel Conversion

Douglas Development Corp. has begun the conversion of a Georgetown office building into a Marriott International-branded hotel, reported by Washington Business Journal.

The project, named The Canal House of Georgetown, will involve the renovation and combination of the 27,801-square-foot office building with two adjacent townhouses. The 106-key hotel will be part of Marriott’s Tribute portfolio and is expected to be completed by early 2025.

The decision to restore the building into a hotel was driven by the decreased demand for office space. The hotel will target business travelers, leisure travelers, and Georgetown University parents.
