DOGE Terminates a Dozen Federal Leases in Oregon

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has begun listing planned lease terminations including agency offices in Oregon.

Twelve of the leases terminated were in Oregon and include IRS national offices in Salem, Bend and Medford. Also impacted is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration office in Salem. The move is part of the administration’s efforts to reduce spending across the country. According to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the intention is to put 10 federal buildings up for sale in Oregon.

At one point, GSA listed more than 400 identified buildings across the country as “non-core assets” that could be sold; however, the list was later removed from the agency’s website. DOGE has indicated more than 1,000 federally leased or owned properties that could face potential downsizing. The department’s website says it estimates saving $105 billion from a combination of terminations, contract cancellations and reducing federal workers.
