Digital Realty $1B Data Center Expands to 64 Acres

Digital Realty, which is developing a $1 billion data center campus in Garland, TX, received approval to expand the project to 64 acres from its current planned 47.5 acres. The add-on will cost an additional $400 million. The 1.4-million-square-foot campus, near Campbell Road and President George Bush Turnpike, will be fully developed in 20 years and, once complete, will operate in excess of 160 megawatts of critical IT load. This will make it one of the largest data center campuses in Dallas County.

The project’s first phase design is underway, and is scheduled for buildout and completion by late 2021. Each phase, consisting of approximately 280,000 square feet, will operate at 32 megawatts of critical IT load.

“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of development activity in the area, and, thus far, realized over $3 billion in investment commitments for Garland’s President George Bush Turnpike Corridor,” said David Gwin, Garland’s Director of Economic Development.
