DFW Ranks Third as Global Data Center Market

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is known for many things, such as distribution and a magnet for high-powered corporate headquarters. And, according to Cushman & Wakefield, DFW can add the fact that it ranks third on Cushman & Wakefield’s Data Center Global Market Comparison. North Texas was beat out by Northern Virginia (which ranked #1) and Silicon Valley (which came in second place).

According to the report, DFW’s infrastructure hub, combined with a location at the midpoint of several long-haul fiber networks led to a high ranking. Other factors include the relatively low cost of land, low risk of natural disasters and many locally-based enterprises. “The state of Texas maintains strong data center incentives, with sales tax exemptions available on large builds over $200 million,” added Cushman & Wakefield’s Rick Hughes.

The report added that more than 80 MW is under construction throughout DFW, and multiple large campuses are in the planning stages.
