Four developers submitted redevelopment proposals for the U.S. Navy’s Old Town campus in San Diego, with a decision expected by the end of 2023

Developers Vie for Redevelopment of Navy’s Old Town Campus

Four developers have submitted proposals to redevelop the U.S. Navy’s Old Town campus in San Diego, reported the San Diego Business Journal. Each of the four is vying to be the 70-acre project’s master developer, which the Navy plans to name by the end of year.

Financial terms of the proposed projects, along with other details, have not been made public, reported the Business Journal. “As the process moves forward, the Navy will provide updates as permitted and appropriate,” the Navy said in a statement.

Part of the developer’s job will be to build a modern headquarters for NAVWAR, the Navy command focused on information technology and cybersecurity. NAVWAR is now housed in sprawling, repurposed factory buildings that once produced World War II aircraft. In addition, private business would have the chance to lease the rest of the Navy property for an extended term and build a mixed-use development.

Connect Orange County will take place Sept. 27, 2023 at VEA | Newport Beach Marriott in Newport Beach, concurrently with Connect Healthcare Real Estate on Sept. 27 and 28. Click here to register for Connect Orange County, and here to register for Connect Healthcare Real Estate.
