Developers Eyeing Hutto for Massive Mixed-Use Project

Capland Development is in the early stages of planning a massive 257-acre project in Hutto. Called Gateway at Hutto, the project is slated to include 29 acres of multifamily development (730 units), about 13 acres of townhome construction (125 units), roughly 68 acres of single-family (285 homes) and almost 58 acres (660,000 square feet) of mixed-use commercial that would include office space, a hotel and conference center, large swaths of retail and more. It would all surround almost 74 acres of open space with a lake at the center. The property is at East Wilco Highway and County Road 137.

Austin Business Journal reports the developers will need to account for road, water and wastewater infrastructure. Rialto Studio Inc. is the project’s land planner. Developers said they don’t have a timeframe yet. A lot will depend on how soon the required permitting gets approved.

The city, about 30 miles northeast of Austin, has been growing rapidly, reaching almost 40,000 people.
