Developer Takes Over Tacoma Modular Tower Project

Charles Cheung, a Los Angeles-area developer, is seeking permits to develop a $70 million, 233-unit project called Star Residence. In 2022, plans were initially filed by Bothell-based DMG Capital Group as pre-development plans with the city, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal.

At the time, Cheung’s company, Pinnacle LGS, was a partner in the project. But now, Cheung is the project owner after acquiring the four-parcel site for $2.2 million through a related entity. Pinnacle LGS provides light gauge steel (LGS) framed building construction.

IHB Architects of Kent, which worked on the tower for DMG, remains the architect for the project but DMG is no longer involved. The proposed plans call for a 12-story, 162,000-square-foot structure with nine levels of modular units over two levels of concrete construction.
