Meyers Group working with Osceola Co to redevelop Orlando resort

Developer, Osceola County to Redevelop Blighted Site

A shuttered, blighted Osceola County hotel is the subject of a major redevelopment plan. The Meyers Group is working with the county to replace the 900-room Orlando Sun Resort & Spa with a project that includes hotels, restaurants, conference and meeting room space, museums, live entertainment and more with its initial investment estimated at $192 million. Prior concepts from the company for the site have included 800,000 square feet of retail, entertainment and restaurant space, along with 500 hotel rooms. The site is at 6375 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee. The hotel has been abandoned since closing in 2012.

The Orlando Business Journal reports a memorandum of understanding would provide a path for a development agreement with the county and comes as Meyers Group wants to form a community development district called the Ovation Community Development District, which would be used to fund the project.
