Last Pig Stand to be razed in SA

Developer Obtains Permit to Raze the Last Pig Stand

The first Pig Stand restaurant opened in Dallas in 1921, and its last one, in San Antonio, will soon be demolished. At its peak, as many as ten Pig Stands served 50,000 sandwiches a week.

The Pig Stand building at 1508 Broadway St., is set to be razed to make way for a mixed-use venture sponsored by GrayStreet and Fulcrum Development. The 15-acre project will include a 211-key hotel. The San Antonio Business Journal reports plans submitted to the city call for an AC Hotel, a midscale Marriott flag. The property would be 7 stories tall, have 156 parking spaces and a rooftop deck and pool. The Merritt hospitality group is expected to be involved in the project.

The timeline for building the project, to be called “BESA District,” has not been released. GrayStreet bought the property in 2023.
