Houston developer eyes Galveston parcel for hotel, apartments, condos.

Developer Eyes Galveston Sea View Project

A first-time developer hopes to build a $250 million development on 16 newly purchased acres across the road from the shore in Galveston. The mixed-use project would include restaurants and other food-and-beverage concepts around a courtyard, midrise condos with Gulf views, two apartment complexes and a midsize hotel.

The Houston Business Journal reports Mohamed Eldawy says he is partnering with an offshore investment group on the project on which he hopes to break ground sometime next year. He requires permits from the city of Galveston and the Army Corps of Engineers.

The first phase will include bars and restaurants and a 10- to 12-story condo tower with 270 to 300 two- and three-bedrooms units.

For the second phase, Eldawy plans to build a seven-story hotel with 120 to 150 rooms and a seven-story senior-living apartment tower with 80 one- and two-bedroom units.

The third phase will be a two-building, 270-unit apartment complex.
