Detroit’s Metropolitan to Become $32M Element Hotel
Metropolitan Hotel Partners, a joint venture between the Roxbury Group and Means Group, has closed on the purchase of the Metropolitan Building in downtown Detroit. The new owners are now ready to convert the 90-year-old property, at 33 John R., into a 110-key extended-stay hotel, under the Element Flag. The asset has sat vacant for more than 40 years.
The development is anticipated for a summer 2018 completion. In addition to the rooms, the Element Detroit at the Metropolitan Building will offer 2,000 square feet of meeting space, 7,000 square feet of retail, and an outdoor patio. Element Hotels is part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. The developers and Detroit’s Downtown Development Authority signed a development agreement last year.
