Designs Unveiled for New $1B Kansas City Airport Terminal
Designs for a new $1-billion terminal at Kansas City International Airport have been presented to the city council by Edgemoor Infrastructure. The sleek, modern, initial concepts are anchored by a two-story fountain that projects messages and colors on cascading water to welcome travelers.
If successfully elected on Nov. 7 to privately finance, design, and build a new single terminal, the development team will discuss the concepts and collect feedback via a series of design open houses during November and December.
Traveler convenience plays a key role in architect Skidmore, Ownings & Merrill’s design that features close-in parking, a two-level curbside pick-up and drop-off area that is expected to be faster and more convenient, as well as larger gate waiting areas to accommodate increased passengers on today’s planes.
Financing for the new terminal will be paid back from airport revenues, with the city continuing to own and operate the airport.
