Design for Hemisfair MXU Unveiled, HDRC to Examine

San Antonio developer Zachary Hospitality unveiled plans for its multimillion-dollar mixed-use development proposed for Hemisfair. The over $200-million development, if approved, would offer a 14-story, 200-room hotel, eight-story office tower, an “urban market,” and up to 50,000 square feet of space for retail shops and restaurants. The next step? The design will be presented to the Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC).

The buildings would be situated on South Alamo Street, north of Yanaguana Garden. Zachary Hospitality indicated it hopes to complete the mixed-use project by the middle of 2021. “The ideal scenario is waking up on a Saturday without plans … and you could just go to Hemisfair and end up spending the entire day there,” Hemisfair’s Omar Gonzalez told the Rivard Report.

Hemisfair, the site of the 1968 World’s Fair, is being redeveloped as an expanded park, complete with plazas, courtyards, residences and local businesses.
