Denver Could Lease DoubleTree for Homeless Housing

The Denver City Council could start with a lease. But, would have the option to buy the DoubleTree Hotel at 4040 Quebec St., if they approve the item at an upcoming meeting. The City says the 300-unit, 450-bed hotel is needed to house the homeless.

If approved, the city would initially lease the property for $83,333.33 a month for up to 15 months. The lease’s maximum contract amount is $1,250,000.

Denver can purchase the hotel for $43 million anytime during the lease. The proposed contract includes a hotel purchase price of $39 million, as well as additional costs.

Earlier this year, the Denver Housing Authority acquired the Best Western Central Park hotel at 4595 Quebec St. for conversion to permanent supportive housing and is now in use as individual shelter units. The city also closed on the Stay Inn at 12033 E. 38th Ave. for supportive housing.
