Denver agency buys 194-unit hotel for homeless housing

Denver Agency Buys Former Hotel to House the Homeless

The former Best Western hotel in Northeast Park Hill in Denver will soon become housing for the homeless. The Denver Housing Authority (DHA) bought the hotel, and the City and County of Denver will lease the property from the DHA.

The DHA acquired the hotel in Northeast Park Hill for nearly $26 million.

Once the deal closes, the 194 rooms at 4595 Quebec St. will be converted into housing units. Most of the rooms in the recently renovated Best Western Central Park hotel already have kitchenettes so retrofitting will be minimal. At least 40% of the units will be restricted for tenants earning 30% of Area Median Income, or about $25,000 annually.

The city would start leasing the property on Sept. 1.
