Dental Society Cancels McCormick Place Plans for Feb. 2021

The Chicago Dental Society (CDS) said Thursday that its 156th Midwinter Meeting, previously scheduled for McCormick Place, will be held virtually instead. The meeting will be hosted Feb. 25–27, 2021.

“Every year, CDS brings together nearly 30,000 dentists, other healthcare professionals, and exhibitors from throughout the world,” said CDS president-elect Dean P. Nicholas. “While the camaraderie and connection afforded by an in-person event will be missed, our first and foremost concern is the health and safety of our attendees.”

He added, “At this time, it is difficult to predict whether a vaccine or treatment for COVID-19 will be widely available. A virtual meeting will still allow for important education and scientific exchange. We are disappointed that we cannot be together in-person, but look forward to a robust meeting.”

The Chicago Tribune reported that the CDS meeting was the largest of the five 2021 cancellations to date at McCormick Place.
