Demolition Work Begins on Broomfield $45M Arena
It started off with the best intentions, but demolition work began on Broomfield’s 1stBank Center nearly a year after it closed permanently. In May 2023, the Broomfield Urban Renewal Authority’s Board of Directors voted to close the facility permanently.
Broomfield City Council said the 6,500-seat event center never reached its full potential in hosting sporting events, concerts and other events since opening in late 2006. The site never made a profit. The center cost $45 million to build and $3 million to tear down.
Most of the materials that cannot be recycled, such as insulation, drywall and the roof, will be removed early in the project. The heavier, recyclable materials, such as asphalt and concrete, will be removed last. Demolition is expected to take six months and will take place Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. No plans have been settled on regarding how the land will be used.
