Demolition Begins at Tyler High Schools

A little more than a year after the Tyler (TX) Independent School District selected architects to design new facilities for two area high schools, demolition has begun. The two targeted Tyler high schools are Robert F. Lee at 411 E. S.E. Loop 323, and John Tyler at 1120 N. N.W. Loop 323. The process, from tear-down to build-up, will take approximately three years.

In April 2017, voters passed a $198 million bond to renovate the high schools. The package is split in two parts, and four teams of architects are overseeing the $122 million reconstruction at Lee, with John Tyler undergoing an $87 million rebuild.

The majority of Lee will be demolished, except for the field house, fine arts center and varsity gym. John Tyler will be rebuilt over its existing frame, with a change in façade.
