De Blasio Names SCA’s La Rocca as Buildings Commissioner
Mayor Bill de Blasio has named Melanie La Rocca Commissioner of the Department of Buildings, effective June 3. Most recently VP of Development at the School Construction Authority, La Rocca is the latest of a series of recent high-level city appointees related to real estate.
“The critical task of ensuring the city can grow in a safe and thoughtful way is reliant upon the close cooperation between our industry and the Department of Buildings,” said John H. Banks, president of the Real Estate Board of New York. “We look forward to working with Ms. La Rocca and supporting her efforts to create new housing and commercial space.”
La Rocca’s appointment follows last Thursday’s announcement that Louise Carroll would become the new Commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. In April, de Blasio named Vicki Been as deputy mayor for housing and economic development.
