DCP Sends NYC Commercial Zoning Tweaks to City Council
The City Planning Commission has endorsed the Adams administration’s commercial zoning reforms, named the City of Yes for Economic Opportunity, forwarding them to the New York City Council.
These reforms aim to facilitate business expansion across the city, covering retail, nightlife, industrial spaces, manufacturing, life sciences, film studios, and home businesses. Updates include expanded home business permissions, retail above residential units, and new zoning for multistory warehouses.
Despite concerns from community boards and some commissioners, amendments were made, such as capping home business sizes and clarifying regulations. The City Council now has 50 days to vote on the proposals before Mayor Eric Adams’ approval.
