DC Waldorf Astoria Slated for Foreclosure Sale Again

The Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C. is set for auction on August 5, following a canceled sale last month. Alex Cooper Auctioneers will conduct the foreclosure sale for the leasehold interest at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, according to a notice filed by the lender’s representative.

The federal government owns the property, but it is leased to an affiliate of Miami’s CGI Merchant Group. CGI defaulted on a $285 million loan, with an outstanding balance of $252.7 million as of May. Chicago-based MSD Partners, the primary lender, initiated foreclosure proceedings.

CGI bought the lease for $375 million in May 2022, reopening the hotel as a Waldorf Astoria under Hilton Worldwide. The hotel is managed by Senih Geray.
