Data Center Operator Eyeing $14B Harlingen Project

There seems to be no stopping the size and scope of data centers, especially in Texas.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports U.K.-based developer Eneus Energy is planning to invest more than $14 billion in a massive data center in the Harlingen area.

The firm is planning to build 16 data halls on a 1,785-acre site, which it expects to offer up to 2 gigawatts of power capacity, and estimates it will create 360 permanent jobs when fully operational.

Eneus touts the area’s proximity to 9 fiber-optic cable providers and a future transmission line. Eneus says it will use reclaimed wastewater instead of fresh water as a coolant. Water and power use are often the biggest obstacles data centers face in gaining public acceptance.
